Elizabeth Soychak: Bio

Writing in Cadence about her debut CD, BEHAVE YOURSELF, Jerome Wilson described Elizabeth's voice as "vibrant and haunting", "full of youthful energy and worldly regret at the same time".

Soychak grew up in a New England home full of music: her father sang & played guitar, her mother listened to Robert J. Lurtsema & Live from the Met & her siblings worshiped The Beatles & Carole King. During her childhood, Soychak's parents operated a rock-n-roll dance hall where she heard live bands every week. She began singing in public at age eleven in her middle school's production of The King & I and continued her musical theatre career throughout high school and into college. Afterwords in Boston, the blues called and she sang lead for the band Epstein's Mother. A move to New York brought endless choices, and although she had fooled around with cabaret at college coffeehouses, it was her introduction to recording artist and teacher Nancy Marano that allowed her to get serious about the art of singing standards. Soychak joined Marano's jazz workshop and has been singing tunes from the Great American Songbook ever since. She counts among her influences Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Judy Garland, Keely Smith, Shirley Horn and Nancy Wilson.

Soychak appears most frequently at private events in New York, but has entertained at clubs including The Triad, The Duplex, Galapagos, CBGS' Annex and most recently the Renegade Cabaret.
